Snapshots of the high poly made of the Habitable Air Lock (HAL) over 2 weeks during my internship at NASA JSC's Advanced Operations Concept Lab. Everything was modeled in Autodesk Maya, which started from cleaning up a CAD model and then using that as a base for the realistic model. The goal for this model was to be high fidelity and highly functional inside of VR. Because of this, many of the doors, cushions, and buttons/switches were modeled to be interactive.
I cleaned up the CAD model inside of Blender first, to remove all unnecessary pieces and to organize which parts I'll actually need. These pieces were then brought into Maya, where they were retopologized. Using the newly repotologized low poly models, I created high polys where it was necessary for future baking and texturing.
The low poly and high poly model of the HAL was finished in around 3 weeks before the end of my internship, to be passed along to the next intern to finish the texturing and functionality.
